Student Assistants Office

We work to ensure that student assistants at the University of Münster are provided with good working conditions. From the moment the position is advertised to the conclusion of the employment contract, we provide ongoing support and services to student assistants who hold a bachelor's degree (SHB), as well as those without a degree (SHK). SHBs can also receive advice and counseling from the Academic Staff Council. Our responsibilities include resolving conflicts, counselling, providing clarity on legal matters and regulations, and ensuring that these are properly implemented (no legal advice).

If you need any help, write us an email and we can set up a meeting. We treat all matters confidentially and are well-networked within the University.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Wage as SHK and SHB

As a student assistant without a bachelor's degree, you earn 12,90€ per hour worked. With a bachelor's degree, the wage is 14€ per hour worked. (October 2024).

  • Vacation entitlement

How is my vacation entitlement calculated?

Your vacation entitlement is based on the German Federal Vacation Act (Bundesurlaubsgesetz). What matters is how many days per week you regularly work, not how many hours you work in total.

How much vacation do I get?

The legal minimum vacation is four weeks per year, which translates to:

If you work 6 days/week: 24 vacation days

If you work 5 days/week: 20 vacation days

If you work 4 days/week: 16 vacation days

If you work 3 days/week: 12 vacation days

If you work 2 days/week: 8 vacation days

If you work 1 day/week: 4 vacation days

    Who approves my vacation?

The academic department or institute you work for (e.g., your seminar, department, or faculty) is responsible for calculating and approving your vacation.
